Overview of Modern Chinese Volume3
This volume is developed in line with the CEFR B1 proficiency descriptors, which expect learners to grasp key information in everyday situations, express ideas in an organized manner, and produce coherent texts. However, many learners at the B1 level still rely on simple sentence structures and struggle to use appropriate connectors to form structured paragraphs.
To address this gap, in addition to applying direct instruction, audio-lingual, situational, communicative, and task-based teaching methods, this volume emphasizes two key instructional focuses:
- Practice in Sentence Linking and Structuring: Through varied contexts and continuous questioning between teacher and students, as well as peer interaction, learners practice chunking and sentence sequencing to internalize grammatical structures.
- Development of Coherent Expression: Intermediate learners are guided to express themselves in complete, connected discourse—linking different sentence types and forming context-appropriate, structured paragraphs rather than fragmented descriptions.
