Modern Chinese Volume4 時代華語第四冊

Overview of Modern Chinese Volume4

This volume comprises 16 lessons and aims to bring learners to the CEFR B2 level. It builds on themes from the previous three volumes using a spiral approach. Each lesson includes one dialogue and one short passage, with gradually increasing text length to support progressive learning.

The textbook introduces 1,371 vocabulary items, nearly 90% of which meet or exceed the “advanced level” in the Ministry of Education’s Level 3, Stage 7 word list. Each word is presented with an example sentence distinct from the lesson text. For words with multiple meanings, the most common alternate usage is also provided for reference.

There are 110 grammar points, over half aligned with the Ministry of Education’s graded grammar list. Explanations use familiar vocabulary to support comprehension and self-study. Comparative notes clarify similar grammar structures from earlier volumes. Practice activities include dialogue completion, sentence rewriting, mini-conversations, synonym choices, paraphrasing, and usage judgment, arranged by increasing difficulty.

Emphasis on Communication and Task-Based Activities

  1. Communication-Focused Tasks: Group discussions and collaborative exercises promote interaction. Supplementary handouts can enhance learning outcomes.
  2. Diverse Task Types: Activities include Q&A, interviews, discussion grids, problem-solving, alternative viewpoints, role-play, presentations, personal reflections, planning tasks, reading discussions, job-search tasks, and news reporting, offering rich and practical language use opportunities.
